A time for giving! – The Artbox

A weird and wearing year is about to come to an end. The coming holiday seasons will let us seek rest and recovery with our loved ones, our friends, and families! Even if this year it might be only with our nearest and dearest. We want to show our love and thankfulness and try to find the perfect gift, e.g. for a creative person in our life!

Whether they are a budding or accomplished artist, the gift of a private art class with me at the studio in Belair or online (on demand) will be for sure an inspiring gift under the tree or at any other special moment coming.

Creative experiences make wonderful gifts for friends and family members who crave inspiration no matter their experiences or backgrounds in art. Whether you want to make their artistic journey easier – or perhaps their practice simply more enjoyable – my beautiful art boxes could be the key to unlocking or even boosting their creativity.

The content of the box, decorated with one of my original mono-prints, includes a high quality block of paper, a mechanical pen with three different coloured mines (soft pencil, red & white chalk) as well as a personalised card detailing an inspirational exercise to start off with some practical fun right away, even before coming to a 1:1 session at the studio. The box also contains the voucher for the private art session with me (1.5 h), that will be individually appointed and includes all required materials.

2020 has made us all rethink what makes us happy so perhaps this gift will inspire your loved one to embark on an artistic journey he or she has been longing for, for years! Send a mail to sonja(at) and acquire one of these beautiful boxes as long as they the last. The price is just 350€!

Warm regards,

From the studio of an artist during the Corona lockdown and after

At lunch time on March 12th 2020 I said good-bye to the last group of students at the studio after a 2h session and couldn’t foresee how significantly my work would change, at least for quite a foreseeable time. From one week to the next I had to set out all my classes and the realisation of how big the impact of the corona virus to our life’s really is, is still settling in.

Culture, art and creativity are some of the most important human inspirations that keep us going, during the toughest times, we could see that with the many videos of musicians, actors and artists that kept posting inspirational content to keep our spirits high. During the first three weeks of the confinement I tried to find ways to make sure I could continue my classes as they were, in the online world. Little did I know that preparing a kids class that I normally give in three languages, would demand a crippling amount of time to prepare in a written format. Not to even talk about my quest to find a safe platform and a working concept for an online art studio where I wanted nothing more than to go back to my routine of inspiring people to express themselves. Eight weeks later I am still working on the online concepts for classes and have finally found two interesting leads, that also technically seem to allow further classes, but more on that soon.

Since childhood, my escape to happiness and mental strength have always been making art and self expression. You may guess it, in order to come back to my happy core I started to spend more and more time at the studio, which luckily is just across the hall. I have been focusing on making gelli prints and collages and found moments in which I could forget it all and even experienced bliss. And essentially I found a thankfulness for the opportunity to concentrate probably for the first time since my university years, a big part of my working day on the creation of art again. And last but not least I found myself with a substantial collection of cool art pieces now for sale, that are all somehow an expression of this very specific moment in time. Have a look maybe there is something for you there too?!
Without truly running away or closing my eyes from the difficulties that the situation brings, the hours of making art have provided me with an inner balance that helped me to cope with the still existing challenges of the new life.

So in order to help you to find moments of mindful creation I am currently working on two life streaming classes that I hopefully will be able to publish soon, if in the mean time you would like to take one on one art coaching sessions either online or life at the studio (from 18th May onwards) under the given hygiene rules of wearing a mask and washing hands you are very welcome to contact me for appointments. Stay safe & I hope to be able to catch up with you soon,

From “surface to substance” – a new art workshop for adults starting on the 11th January

In this art workshop over 5 weeks we will be exploring the possibilities of leaving the flat surface as an art medium and we will playfully discover how to express ourselves three dimensionally with materials as varied as paper, carton, clay, wire, plaster, recycling materials, etc. The workshops are planned as inspirational sessions to broaden our artistic perspectives and to experiment with sculptural processes.

It is a workshop that can work as an eye opener and inspiration for artists that feel stuck in their routine but it is equally great for beginners to connect to their inner artist and to experience how fun it can be to make and build things.
No advance knowledge or experience is required, just the openness to playfully create will be an advantage.

The workshops take place in Weimershof on Thursday evenings from 19.45 – 21.15 (on the following dates: 11.1/18.1/25.1/8.2/22.2) or on Friday mornings from 10.00 – 11.30 (on the following dates: 12.1/19.1/26.1/9.2/23.2).

The course fee for the set of 5 classes is 225€ and includes all materials. In order to book the classes or in case you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me and please feel free to share the information with your friends.

JOY & PEACE – Newsletter

All classes for this year have come to an end and I would like to take the opportunity to say a whole hearted “Thank you” for the trust you have put in me to guide you and/or your children in your/their creative development. It has been a joy to accompany and witness the growing, the developments, the sudden outburst of vital crazy creativity, the moments of mindful creation and the strength of the artistic expression that connects us all.

A big “Thank you” also to those of you who have purchased my art, it makes me happy when people connect to my work and as an independent I do a little happy dance by myself for every purchase 🙂
I wish you and your families a time filled with JOY & PEACE in the coming days and all the best for a very happy, healthy and creative new year, in which we hopefully will see each other soon!

Vive la rentrée – Newsletter September – Returning to a new creative season at home

The nice thing about returning home from the holidays is that you can take a fresh start with new impressions from the outside – for example on the decoration at home, getting your wardrobes sorted, preparing the kids for the return of school and sometimes enjoying the blissful return to daily routine that the start of school provides. After a busy summer with the family, finding a spot of time dedicated to yourself!
I know – I will be dancing on Tuesday morning and happily escaping upstairs to my studio 🙂 to continue my works of the summer (see above). If you feel you need a bit of creative down time for yourself, I have two nice programmes on offer!

This seasons “Boost your creativity” classes are starting again next week and I still have a few spaces on Friday morning. Rather than being technical in nature, each class is designed to help you playfully create whilst “keeping your inner critic in gear” and to find new ways to bring art & creativity back into your everyday life.

The villageIf you would like to take some creative time out, spending a weekend creating and making your own art, concentrating on your own artistic projects and development in a beautiful environment not far from Luxembourg, than you should join us for the fantastic weekend retreat from the 20th – 22nd November. I can ensure you, it will bring the creative spark back into your life!

kids classes dAnd if you feel your children need another creative outlet apart from school where under professional guidance they can explore a wide variety of techniques and materials, you will be happy to hear that there are still spaces for all age groups in the creative kids art classes on Tuesday afternoons starting again the 22nd September.

The return to routine always needs a bit of time, and if you are looking for some inspirational fun on a weekend there is the BAFF Festival at Carré Rotondes on the 20th September where I am organising some fun & free creative workshops for all ages. Please check their FB site for all further details.

I am wishing you and your families a gentle & inspirational start into the new season! May we still have many sunny days to come and may we meet for one or the other occasion before the autumn fully starts,

Sonja x
