Creative Summer Art class for teenagers & young adults

This summer I am offering again summer art classes for teenagers and young adults that love art and would like to be encouraged to think and work off the beaten track. We will be exploring how to develop ideas and work with a sketch book, brush up on a few basic art skills that help to get on with the realisation of creative projects and trying to push boundaries that we encounter. We will be discussing the meaning of art and also exploring works of contemporary artists. Learning to express what matters to us and how to transmit that through works of art.

(C) Creation of J. Mollgard 2016

The summer art classes will provide a fun, daily 2h atelier environment in which the students are encouraged to work, think and discuss about a given subject, that ideally will inspire them to continue working on at home also. The participants will be encouraged to work with a sketchbook and how to use it for their idea development and we will be drawing, painting & building. The idea is to provide the participants with an intensive creative experience that widens their perspective in a safe & pressure free environment, with feedback and encouragement to test and experiment with a choice of artistic materials and techniques. The course will also be an ideal starting point for all students thinking about a possible creative career and that need to prepare a portfolio in the long run.

The classes are taking place at my atelier in Belair:

  • from the 8th July to the 12th July from 14.00 – 16.00
  • and from the 29th July to the 2nd August from 14.00 – 16.00.

Flowers in ART

Flowers have been forever a big theme in art and in this 5 weeks course we will dive into the creation of flower paintings from different angles. We will be looking at the subject in art history and try to establish a personal yet contemporary view. You will be encouraged to look at flowers and plants around you and learn how to capture them.
The class is a freeing, process driven mixed media painting workshop for all level of students that want to learn how to express themselves with colours and learn how to develop a theme. The explorative way in which we will use the materials is great for beginners and experienced artists a like. The participants will be encouraged to trust themselves and their painting process and will learn to creatively react to challenges that might appear on their paths. Due to the small number of participants each student will be encouraged at a personal level.

Even though I also plan to be working from real flower set ups, in preparation for the class I recommend to chose at least 5 photos of different flowers or pictures of blossom that inspire you to capture them, may it be close detail pictures, a still life set up in a vase, a potted plant or plants in their natural habitat. The workshops take place at my atelier in Belair on Monday nights from 19.00 – 21.00 or on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 – 12.00. The classes will be on the 20th/21st May, 3rd/4th June, 17th/18th June, 24th/25th June and the 1st/2nd July . As the participants number is limited to eight students, please do book early in order to avoid disappointment!

The course fee for the set of 5 classes is 250€ and includes all materials. In order to book the classes or in case you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me and please feel free to share the information with your friends. I am looking forward to a fun new class!

Monday nights – Black & White painting workshop – starts 25th February

Black & White painting workshop – Less is more or discovering your artistic freedom through the limitation of colours

During my last painting class we focussed for one session on the limitation of colours – to black and white. And discovered in the process that the restriction was actually rather freeing and helped the students to focus on other important painting elements, as lines and personal gesture, the use of composition, structure, space and form.
In this painting workshop over 5 weeks we will drive the experience further and not only explore the colour palette between black and white in all its options, but also finding an exciting way to express ourselves in between abstract and concrete, through the use of the before mentioned painting elements.

The 2h class is for beginners and advanced students alike, because the restriction in colour indeed is eye opening also for experienced creators and helps to get unstuck from old routines.

We will be working with coal, inks, acrylic colours and pigments, on paper and carton. The classes take place at my atelier in Belair on Monday nights from 25th February  – 25th March, between 19.00 – 21.00 and cost 250 Euros.

As the spaces are limited to eight participants, please do book early in order to avoid disappointment! If you do have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me and feel free to share this post with your friends!

Looking forward to an exciting workshop,

Drawing class for beginners and advanced students – start January

Would you like to bring more creativity into your life? Would you like to develop a regular drawing practice in order to improve your self-expression and train your eye and hand coordination at the same time? Would you like to learn how to sketch a memory with only a few lines? Then this class is for you!

Inspired by Paul Klee’s definition:

“Drawing is the art of taking lines for a walk.”

We will tackle different drawing exercises and subjects that will also enable you to follow up at home and provide you with the tips and tricks to catch up on your drawing skills when and wherever you can.

We will be exploring varied drawing materials and their use for different subjects. All exercises are chosen in such a way that the class is really targeted at all art enthusiasts from beginner to advanced. The classes are never exactly a total repetition of previous drawing classes, so they are also a great option for previous students to deep their understanding of the process and further develop their drawing skills. The small number of participants encourages individual and group feedback.

The workshops take place at my atelier in Belair on Monday evenings from 19.00 – 21.00  or on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 – 12.00. The classes start on the 7th/8th January and go through to the 11th/12th February incl.. All materials are included in the price of 300 Euros and you are also welcome to bring your previous drawing projects to share with the group.

If you do have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me and feel free to share this post with your friends!

Looking forward to seeing you soon,
