Works
Inside and Outside spaces
The theme inside and outside spaces, deals in the widest sense with imaginary and real landscapes that fascinate the artist Sonja Soyer in her work again and again.
"In landscapes I am fascinated by rhythms, structures and objects, that I try to catch in their singularity. An important element that I use in order to integrate structure in my works is the use of writing. The written element doesn’t need to be deciphered in order to discover the picture closer or to be understood. The written elements could be written into the picture, they could be glued in as collages from books or news papers or simply painted over written elements in which I leave structure standing in order to return to the bigger, whole landscape impression. Especially my Scottish landscapes in which I try to catch historic objects or buildings and the atmosphere of the wide countryside, do have through the use of the written elements a strong narrative character.”
